What to expect when you work with Brighters
From your first message to your feedback conversation โ here's exactly what happens, what we'll ask of you, and what a session actually looks like.
Free initial consultation with our care team โ no obligation.
Start with a conversation, not a commitment
You don't need to know which assessment your child needs before you reach out. Submit a short request โ your name, contact details, and what's concerning you โ and our care team follows up for a free initial consultation call. It's a real conversation with no cost and no obligation to book a paid assessment afterward; its only job is to help you understand your options and decide on the right next step, if any.
Before your session
Once your assessment is confirmed, you'll complete a developmental history form and can upload any previous assessment, school or therapy reports โ this gives your clinician context before you even meet. Where a parent (and, for an ADHD assessment, sometimes a teacher) rating scale is part of the process, you'll complete that ahead of time too, so live session time is spent with your clinician rather than on paperwork.
- โFind a quiet, private space with minimal distractions for the video call
- โUse a laptop or tablet with a stable internet connection and a working camera and microphone
- โSessions run on Google Meet โ there's nothing to download, just open the link in a browser
- โComplete any intake forms and rating scales beforehand, so your session focuses on the conversation and observation itself
What actually happens on the call
Your clinician recommends which of these your child needs, and they are carried out together. Here is what each one involves.
Strengths & Support Needs Assessment
A structured caregiver interview โ your psychologist asks you about your child's day-to-day communication, daily living skills and socialization. Your child doesn't need to join.
Autism Assessment
A caregiver conversation together with time spent watching your child play, guided by you or a therapist while your clinician observes over video.
ADHD Assessment
For children aged 6 and up: a caregiver conversation together with direct interaction and discussion with your child, alongside parent and teacher rating scales.
Total time
90 to 120 minutes
For all the assessments your child needs, together
Sessions
Usually one, sometimes more
These run over Google Meet, wherever clinically appropriate. During the parts of a session where your clinician is observing or interacting with your child directly, you're welcome to step out of frame if that helps your child settle โ it's your and your clinician's call, made together on the day.
What you share stays within your care
Your information is encrypted in transit and at rest using industry-standard security practices, and your child's reports stay within the care process โ used only by you and your clinician, except where legally required.
Understanding what it means โ and what happens next
Your psychologist interprets the assessment results together with your child's developmental history and anything else you've shared โ scores never make decisions on their own. You'll then meet your psychologist again for a feedback conversation to discuss the findings in plain language, and receive a clear written report with recommendations for home, school and professional support.
The report isn't where the relationship ends. We recommend returning for a reassessment about once a year, so you and your clinician can track how your child is progressing โ every assessment is saved to your child's Progress dashboard.
